New Westpoint Farm Veterinary Practice opens in Dumfries

working with you across Dumfries and Galloway

We look forward to welcoming ALL new clients to our Dumfries practice, both now and in the future.

This practice will enable us to continue to provide a high-quality service to all our clients, including new clients.  All our patients receive the same high quality service and added benefits that Westpoint clients are used to. We firmly believe that farm efficiency and profitability is driven by animal health; we aim to provide farmers with the best clinical and advisory services in order to maximise the health and productivity of their livestock.

The practice at Dumfries consists of a combination of high quality expertise on the ground and access to specialist knowledge from its sister Practice at Cumbria and the wider Westpoint Veterinary Group.

We also supply medicines at the best prices, ensuring that the price of the product does not prevent the most appropriate treatment or control programme from being adopted.

Please phone  01768 210548.  We are open for business 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Hugh Thomson BVM&S Cert CHP MRCVS

Hugh qualified from the Royal (Dick) Vet School, Edinburgh with a keen interest in modern farm practice. Originally coming from a Beef, Sheep and Arable farm in Morayshire, there was a vested interest to improve UK livestock famers production through improving animal health. Setting off for the South of England, Hugh spent years in exclusively farm veterinary practice working with a Dorset practice before moving to the main Westpoint branch in West Sussex shortly after. However, the lure of rain, Irn-Bru and patriotism was too much and when the opportunity arose to move back to Scotland and further his career, it was taken.

Hugh has become particularly interested in herd and flock production, especially in areas such as Suckler Cow management, which remains very poorly recorded as a rule. Within Westpoint Veterinary Group, Hugh has spent time managing larger dairy units, expanding our Beef and Sheep Service, Bull and Ram fertility testing, improving client education through discussion groups and workshops, herd consultancy and within the research and development side of the Practice. Hugh gained his certificate in Cattle Health and Production in 2011. Well done Hugh!

Away from work, Hugh will be found Mountain Biking or Kite Surfing. Through the winter months, Hugh enjoys shooting and gives his dog, Huxley, the odd thing to pick-up!

Olivia Brabant  BvetMed MRCVS

From leaving the Royal Veterinary College Olivia went straight into farm animal practice, she undertook an internship with Westpoint, where she gained experience in all aspects of farm animal clinical practice. She became involved in teaching students from the royal veterinary college as part of their formal training and introduced them to herd health monitoring and farm animal surgery.

Olivia has a keen interest in youngstock health; she has been involved in the recording and monitoring on many large dairy units and believes that youngstock is an area that can have great advances in the future.

Olivia has since moved from Warnham and relocated to Scotland where she is keen to get involved in all aspects of the farming industry especially with youngstock, lameness and mastitis.

Olivia's other interests outside of her veterinary profession include shooting, baking and taking her spaniel Welly out for long walks.
