What will you learn:
We aim to help our producers see opportunities to reduce the need for the use of antibiotics through improved general health of their calves.

Successful rearing of calves in the first weeks is critical to ensure you maximise your farm’s future milk and beef production. That’s why during our meetings we will discuss the key areas where we can together make a real difference.

The first 24 hours – foundations for the weeks ahead
• Colostrum – your ‘liquid gold’. Are you getting the most of the protection colostrum gives to your calves?
• Reduce the infectious pressure – how to make hygiene around calving work on your farm.

Is antimicrobial resistance something you should be worried about?
• The impact of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
• How what we do in our herds can influence the future of antibiotics use.

Antimicrobial stewardship – how rational use of antibiotics in youngstock can help make antibiotics more efficient
• Practical tips that will help you get the most of your treatments each time (correct product in correct dose for the required time).
• What can be done to reduce the need for antibiotics in your calves?

Benchmarking – do you know how your calf rearing system is performing?
• Monitoring and comparing youngstock performance on your farm.
• How to set meaningful and achievable targets for health and production parameters in your calving unit.
