Why we launched farmacy.co.uk?

farmacy.co.uk was launched at the Dairy Event in 2006 as a way to provide livestock keepers in the UK with more cost effective veterinary medicines.  Prescription Only Medicine (POM-V) are tools to be used by vets and farmers as part of an overall disease solution strategy and we believe the cost of medicines should not be a barrier to the health of our stock.  After all healthy animals are profitable animals!  

At Westpoint Veterinary Group we use farmacy.co.uk to cut out some of the cost of medicine supply to our own clients.  Any practice client can buy through the internet site without the need for a prescription, your own farm Vet receives an email instantly you confirm your order so they have the opportunity to discuss your individual medicine requirement with you.  By asking farmers to do their own administration we can process more orders, more accurately with fewer people.  With farmers placing orders, creating their own invoices and paying directly by credit or debit card it also means we do not have to service debt which again allows us to reduce the cost of our products and service.

Prescription service 

Since 2006 we have been receiving and dispensing medicines on veterinary prescription, this service has suited many farmers and Vets with a large proportion of Veterinary practices presenting scripts to farmacy.co.uk on a regular basis.  Medicines are expensive not only to farms but also to veterinary practices which have to hold considerable stocks to keep farms supplied with the products they need when they need them.  By looking ahead it is possible to calculate what a farm needs and bulk buy medicines, this again helps to reduce the cost!  Getting a prescription should be easy as you have the right to buy medicines from which ever supplier you wish.   

This means that without a serious look at the structure of most veterinary business they need to charge you >15% mark-up to just stand still.
