LandSkills West Midlands

 

LandSkills West Midlands is a branch of the regional development agency Advantage West Midlands (AWM), which is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).

The RDPE 2007-13 is jointly funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and defra and has a budget of £3.9 billion. £3.3 billion of this budget will help farmers to manage the land more sustainably and deliver important outcomes on biodiversity, landscape and access, water quality and climate change.

Some £600 million will help make agriculture and forestry more competitive and sustainable and enhance opportunity in rural areas..

Westpoint Veterinary Services (Ashbourne) with funding from Landskills West Midlands aim to bring ADVANCED knowledge and skills to the working shepherd.

  1. Skills such as data analysis to help maximise lambs sold and pin point areas to focus on in the future
  2. Injection techniques to make manipulation at lambing easier and improve lamb survival
  3. Simple post-mortem techniques to ascertain cause of death
  4. Costs and bench marking to improve efficiency and profitability
  5. Up to date disease information and parasite resistance

Speakers will include experts from across the industry, including vets, industry stakeholders and farmers to gain the widest possible range of expertise on topics such as parasite control and worm resistance, supply chain.
