NORTHPOINT AND THE RVC
JOINT VENTURE PRACTICE
The Joint Venture Practice was established in 2008 as a unique partnership between Northpoint Veterinary Services and the Royal Veterinary College. The JVP comprises of five farm animal vets and and based from our offices in Leaden Roding and North Mymms, it serves the farm animal community in Essex, southern Suffolk, Hertfordhire and Buckinghamshire.
This unique partnership not only utilises its vets in the field but also has access to the considerable academic resources of the Royal Veterinary College. Working closely with the RVC's farm animal hospital for cases which require treatment not possible 'in the field', the JVP aims to provide an excellent service to all of its clients both at the herd or flock level as well as to the individual animal, whether it is a pet goat or a pedigree heifer.

Julian Dare BVetMed MRCVS 07725 037791 After graduation from the Royal Veterinary College, Jules went straight into mixed practice in Cornwall. Here he rapidly developed a keen interest in all aspects of farm animal medicine and surgery, and in between TB tests, helped to look after a number of beef and dairy herds ranging from 5 to 1000 cows. Jules joined the Westpoint Vet Group in 2005 as the senior vet at the Northpoint office and has continues to develop his interests in dairy cow mastitis control and fertility as well as beef herd helth and production. As a result of the 2007 Bluetongue outbreak in his practice area, Jules has worked closely with local and regional farmer groups and national companies to promote the Bluetongue vaccination scheme throughout the country. |

Ian Roper BVetMed MRCVS 07912 799962 Ian graduated in 2007 from the Royal Veterinary College. He joined Westpoint straight away, having completed a lot of his student requirements here. His first year was mainly spent in West Sussex, from where he took on a major role in calf health and rearing. He also managed to see a bit of the wider world, helping out the vets in our Southwest branch during the recent expansion. Since August 2008, he has been on the permanent staff at the Northpoint office, where he works closely with several major dairies and continues with his calf health role. Ian also has significant teaching responsibilities, towards students from the Royal Veterinary College. When not working, he is most likely to be found playing rugby or watching it. |

Paul Wood BVetMed MSc MRCVS 07590 048589 After qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College in 2005, Paul worked in mixed practice in the Herts/Beds/Bucks area. As with many mixed practices around the country the number of farm calls started to dwindle after the first year with most being emergencies. When faced with a predominantly Equine and Small animal mix Paul decided to follow his other veterinary passion and apply for an MSc in Wild Animal Health. After 9 months of small animal and exotic locum work to fund his Masters degree he started the course with the RVC and Zoological Society of London. After completion of the course in September 2009 he joined the RVC and NVS Joint Venture Practice as Senior Farm Animal Clinican based at the RVC Hawkshead Campus. His role involves organisation of activities for the students as well as providing on farm, lecture based and practical teaching, which alongside providing veterinary care for clients of the JVP keeps him fairly busy. His interests are in cattle reproduction, but is happy dealing with every type of animal imaginable! |
