Research Team

Our core research team has over 40 years combined research experience, including (over 50) GCP(V) or GLP pharmaceutical / vaccine trials, academic research, and has a wide variety of research publications. The team is comprised of a research scientist, a research veterinary surgeon, and practicing veterinary surgeons with a research focus. Matt Dobbs CHP, MRCVS (Director & Consultant Veterinary Surgeon)

Matt qualified from the Royal "Dick" School of Veterinary Studies in 1997. Initially he spent time in farm practice in Somerset and Dorset.  In 1999, he moved to the University of Sydney, where he took the post of visiting registrar; He helped develop a dairy practice servicing 20000 dairy cows in the Nepean Basin, west of Sydney. 

On returning to the UK Matt was made a lecturer in Dairy Practice as well as the Head of Large Animal Practice at the Royal Veterinary College. London. In 2001, he was awarded the Trehane Trust Nuffield Farming Scholarship, to look at the modern role of the livestock vet. He gained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Cattle Health and Production in 2003. He joined the Westpoint Veterinary Group in January 2004 and is Chairman of the board of directors of Westpoint Veterinary Group and Managing Director of farmacy.co.uk. In 2010 he was awarded the Bullock award for Innovation in Agriculture.

Matt contributes regularly to the press with publications on the future of farm animal practice, animal health costs of farms and all aspects of livestock health management.  He has published in the Veterinary Record, Vet Times, UK Vet and several other publications in the field.  He has spoken at numerous conferences in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia, He is a council member of Lantra.

Within Westpoint, Matt has a variety of clinical, managerial and research activities and is the Named Veterinary Surgeon in the Research Team.

 
Matt Dobbs

Lindsay Heasman PhD (Clinical Research Manager)

Lindsay completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham in 1998, before joining ADAS as a Research Scientist. Based at High Mowthorpe in North Yorkshire, Lindsay was responsible for a range of academic research projects, in areas such as TSEs, meat hygiene and animal welfare at slaughter. In addition, Lindsay managed both GCP(v) and GLP compliant studies for a number of pharmaceutical companies. Since joining Westpoint Veterinary Group in 2007, Lindsay has been responsible for developing the group's R&D capability, and manages a number of research and knowledge transfer projects funded by DEFRA, levy boards and Animal Health companies.

Jon Mouncey DBR, MRCVS (Director and  Consultant Veterinary Surgeon)

Jon graduated from The Royal Veterinary College in 2003 and practiced in Carmarthenshire before moving to Cornwall to concentrate and develop his interests in bovine herd health and production medicine.  He joined Westpoint in August 2007, he was instrumental in setting up the Westpoint Sevenoaks branch becoming a Director in 2009.  Jon completed his Diploma in Bovine Reproduction in 2011, which encompassed dairy cow fertility, nutrition and dairy data analysis.  Jon strives to build and work within farm teams to maximize herd fertility, health and profitability within both dairy and beef enterprises.    

Within Westpoint, Jon has significant teaching responsibilities with students from the Royal Veterinary College and has assisted in the development of the Dairyman's Certificate for continued professional training of Westpoint dairy clients.  He is involved in a number of research activities.


 
 
Jon Mouncey

Ian Nanjiani MSc, MRCVS (Clinical Research Veterinary Surgeon & Consultant)
 
Ian has spent the last 15 years with the Research and Development division of Pfizer Animal Health developing, registering and supporting a wide variety of antiparasitic and antimicrobial pharmaceutical products, and vaccines targeting a variety of infectious disease complexes in livestock and companion animals.  He is a Glasgow veterinary graduate who worked in a mixed veterinary practice in the UK before moving to the Republic of Kiribati for 3 years as Veterinary Officer, with responsibility for the delivery of Veterinary Services (Swine, Poultry, Goat, Small Animal), Training & Supervision of 13 Animal Health Department staff and defining and implementing quarantine policy for this 33 island nation.  He subsequently returned to mixed practice in North Wales, and completed an MSc. in Tropical Veterinary Medicine and Epidemiology at the CTVM in Edinburgh, conducting field research on Bovine Tuberculosis in Tanzania when not in practice.  The Wales/Edinburgh arrangement continued for a second year when he joined the teaching staff at CTVM training & supervising MSc & PhD students in Epidemiology & Data Management, after which he moved to Pfizer.

Ian Nanjiani

Tim Potter PhD, MRCVS (Veterinary Surgeon & Consultant)

Tim graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2003 and went on to complete a 3 year residency programme in dairy herd medicine and surgery based at the RVC and a large dairy practice in Somerset. After completing his residency Tim completed a DEFRA funded PhD examining the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antimicrobials used in the treatment of calf pneumonia.  During his time at the Royal Veterinary College Tim worked on a large number of research projects across a wide range of subjects including animal welfare, pharmacology and antimicrobial resistance. Through involvement in these research projects Tim gained extensive experience of the design and management of studies performed under both GLP and GRP conditions.

Within Westpoint, Tim remains an active farm animal clinician whilst also being involved with the clinical research projects being managed within the practice. Tim has a particular interest in youngstock and clinical pharmacology and provides input on these topics at the clinical board. Tim is also involved with the knowledge transfer department of Westpoint regularly speaking at meetings both in the UK and internationally.
