Facilities

Westpoint Veterinary Services provides the highest level of veterinary service to farms across the South East and achieves this through a team of dedicated farm vets, backed up by the very best facilities.

Mission Statement:
“To provide the farmers of Surrey and Sussex a specialist farm veterinary service at an affordable price.”

All of the vets are armed with laptop computers and use a number of programmes applicable to management of modern farms. Vets can assist with on farm problems using the following software packages:

  • Herd Health Planning using the BCVA herd Health Planner
  • Disease Control Cost/Benefit analysis using the BCVA Disease Cost Calculator
  • Herd Data recording using NMR’s Interherd
  • Herd Cell count monitoring using NMR results and the Cell Count Minder software
  • Nutrition analysis using RUMNUT

All of the vets are also equipped with the latest portable scanners – Easi-scan from BCF technology. These back pack scanners can be used for all routine fertility scanning of cattle and other ruminants. They are battery powered with visual goggles and therefore provide true versatility allowing cattle to be scanned anywhere and not just near a power supply! Pregnancy can be detected from 28 days and ovary scanning allows accurate diagnosis of fertility problems.

The practice runs a bull testing programme and semen samples can be collected by manual palpation, natural collection or by using the practice electro-ejaculator. Samples are then analysed on the farm by microscope allowing quick and accurate diagnosis of fertility problems.

The practice runs a busy mastitis lab and cultures milk samples for both clients of the practice and neighbouring veterinary practices. Through the Quality Milk Service clients have access to regular culturing of clinical samples, sub-clinical mastitis samples, cell count analysis and bulk tank analysis, allowing quick identification of any mastitis problem.

The practice has it own foot trimming and bull crush which assists when facilities on a farm would normally make foot trimming and bull examination impossible. This crush can also be hired through the practice by prior arrangement.
