We have a vested interest in nurturing great vet talent in the UK, and our popular 12 month graduate programme helps us to do that.
The programme has been designed to give new vets a flying start to their careers in the farm animal veterinary sector. Across a busy 12 month period, interns are given the opportunity to work at the forefront of farm animal practice in a commercial environment, as well as to receive tailored 1-to-1 mentoring and a course of more formal CPD sessions.
The aim of the course is to build on each graduate’s existing skill set and produce farm animal veterinary surgeons with the knowledge, skills and ability to deal with routine fertility visits and herd health disease problems in an evidence-based way, focussing not only on animal health but also on meeting producer objectives.
Based on clear, regular, 2-way communication, our mentoring process keeps each graduate on track to reach their specific training goals during their programme.
Weekly 1-to-1 sessions take place both on and off farm, to ensure all core skills – from scanning through to surgery – are covered.
Promoting profitability via evidence based diagnosis
You will be working in an environment with a strong commercial focus, underpinned by scientific fact.
As an organisation we are constantly striving to further our knowledge of veterinary science.
Many Westpoint vets already have post graduate qualifications and are working towards more. Several of our vets hold PhDs, diplomas or certificates. Our graduates benefit from working alongside some of the best vets in the business.
Learn from experts
in their field
We organise regular clinical club meetings and bring in external speakers, many of whom are experts in their field, to teach on a range of pertinent topics across the year. Our journal clubs and farmer training events also offer the chance to learn on a daily basis.
Informal environments such as these promote much discussion and debate, helping graduates develop a well-rounded understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by the animal health industry.
Graduates take part in a series of 2 day CPD workshops which focus on the core areas of farm animal practice. The sessions are split between formal teaching, practice solutions to common problems and hands-on practical tutorials in the company of experienced vets and other experts.
