Prepare and refresh skills and knowledge ahead of the 2021 lambing season with our virtual lambing workshops.
Ideal for new shepherds but also an excellent update for more experienced livestock keepers wanting to update their skills and learn more techniques. Throughout the workshop you will have the opportunity to ask the vets any questions that you may have about your flock.

Part 3: Post lambing management – Managing young lambs and ewes after they have lambed?

Wednesday 10th February at 7pm (online)

Learning objectives, presented by Mel Bexon from Westpoint Ashbourne:

  • Castrating/docking
  • Marking and turnout
  • Fostering techniques
  • Rearing lambs
  • Spotting lamb problems and how to manage them
  • Managing lamb disease
  • Post lambing ewe disease
  • Analysing data.

 

Part 1:  Preparing for lambing – Preparation is key

Wednesday 13th January at 7pm (online)

Learning objectives, presented by Emily Francis from Westpoint Winchester:

  • The importance of ewe nutrition and how to monitor it
  • Pre-lambing vaccinations
  • Abortions – common causes and how to manage them
  • Preparation of the lambing shed and the team
  • Pre-lambing ewe disease – how to spot, manage and avoid problems.

 

Part 2: Lambing time – Lambing ewes and optimising lamb survival

Wednesday 27th January at 7pm (online)

Learning objectives, presented by Sharminda Lockwood from Westpoint Ashford:

  • The lambing process
  • Lambing techniques
  • After care of the ewe
  • Care of the neonatal lamb
  • The importance of colostrum management

 

Workshops are £30 +VAT each or book all three for £80 +VAT. Certificate provided on completion.

Please contact your Westpoint practice to register for the courses you want to attend – the course fee will be added to your account. You will then be emailed the joining instructions for the Zoom meeting.
