Experienced Farm Vet | Chelmsford

Our New Teammate?

We are searching for someone friendly and enthusiastic, confident with surgery, OOH and obstetrical work to join our brilliant team at Westpoint Farm Vets in Chelmsford.

The Team

We pride ourselves on the strength of our supportive and inclusive team here at Chelmsford. You will join our team of 100% farm vets, tech/ATT and administrative assistants. You’re welcome to speak with anyone on the team to get a feel for what life is like here.

We won the SPVS and RCVS Mind Matters Veterinary Wellbeing Award, and are very focused on a positive practice culture. We are committed to enhancing the wellbeing of our colleagues; and promote flexibility, support, mentoring and teamwork.

Our Work

Our work is among the most varied a farm job can be –everything from commercial dairy, beef, sheep, pigs, poultry and camelids, to smaller-scale, hobby farming, open farms and pet farm animals. Our Work is approximately 55% beef, 20% dairy and 20% smallholder and camelid species. We are ambulatory, but will be in a new office, with treatment room and lab facilities in July. We cover Essex, South Suffolk and a little bit of East Herts.

We do our own TB testing (LRA), product and animal export work are supportive of further education and research.

We do routine fertility work, health planning and plenty of individual animal work, with a high surgical caseload. We also take on farm rotation students from the University of Surrey.

Most of the year is shared equally on a 1:7 or 8 rota once our new graduate is comfortable OOH, but we double-up on weekends from February through May to cater for a busy calving and lambing season. A weekend on call entitles you to a day in lieu, and second on call a half day. We work a 4.5 day week usually, though flexible and part time hours are considered.

We have recently partnered with The Country Trust charity, which brings children from inner city schools out into the countryside to learn more about farming and agriculture, teach them about food production, and inspire them to consider opportunities outside of the city.

What’s it like working in Essex?

Chelmsford is great for going out, shopping, dining out and cinema, you’re never far from a good country walk, we’re close to great beaches (many dog friendly year-round), and Essex is a hub for watersports and biking. We’ve got fast access to London, and it’s close to the stunning Suffolk Coast for a bit of time out. Essex has just about everything; probably the best kept secret in the South, it’s a fantastic place to live.
